Straight Up Fitness
This small-group fitness class is specifically designed for individuals who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia. Led by Physical Therapist Kristin Zwemer, this class offers therapeutic exercise and strength training to teach you the best exercises for strengthening your postural control muscles. These exercises help you achieve more upright posture and educate you on the importance of specific “loading” exercises to different muscle groups to strengthen your bones.
Nutrition and other factors that you can control to improve your bone density and strength are also discussed. This program meets once a week for 6 weeks in a group setting in order to support and encourage each other while being led by a specially-trained instructor. You will leave this program with a notebook of exercises and other educational material that will help you feel more confident in engaging in healthy and safe exercise independently.
