Harmony in Motion Speech and Physical Therapy was born out of our frustration with ever increasing productivity standards that ran counter to our ability, as experienced clinicians, to provide quality patient-centered care. Our commitment to one-on-one therapy, patient and caregiver education, and the patient/clinician relationship is the hallmark of Harmony in Motion. I am 79 and was referred to Harmony in Motion by my PCP for difficulty swallowing and raspy voice issues. Megan was my primary therapist. From the initial evaluation and clarifying my goals, I felt that I was listened to and a real partner in the therapy process. Megan always clearly explained the therapy strategies and techniques. The home exercises between sessions were easy to follow. She regularly assessed progress and gave useful feedback and tools to improve my exercises. After five sessions I noticed marked improvement both in my ability to swallow and quality of voice. I would highly recommend Harmony in Motion.Daniel Krikston2022-03-30I couldn't be more pleased with the Physical Therapy services I've received at Harmony in Motion. Kris Zwemer is an excellent therapist who took the time to learn my unique PT challenges and then developed a program to meet those needs. I've previously received PT services using a "team approach" and now with a one-on-one provider. I found the one-on-one PT with Kris to be more effective in a shorter amount of time, and would therefore highly recommend Kris Zwemer and Harmony in Motion to anyone in need of PT services.Ed Gallagher2022-03-17I loved my sessions with Kris. She was so personal and never rushed through any of the therapy. She was always searching for specific exercises to suit my problems. And I could contact her anytime even after hours. She really got me through a rough time!margie grove2022-02-08The Speak Out program offered by Megan was in my opinion better than the LSVT loud. I liked that she recorded me before and after for comparisons. She shared a wealth of knowledge about how Parkinson's changes your speaking ability. Biggest plus is that she offers continued group practice in The Loud Crowd after completing the program. Did not have that offered when I did the LSVT. I also took physical therapy from Harmony in Motion, unlike other venues where you see the Physical Therapist for a small portion of your appointment time, here you have the therapist one on one for the entire hour. And again Kris shared a wealth of knowledge with me on how I can deal with Parkinson's and what to expect. Another plus is that they offer group exercise classes for people with movement disorders. I had been searching for the past two years for such activities with no success. For me the down side of these programs is the distance from my home in Perry County . Perhaps I can persuade them to open a site in Perry CountyRonald Beers2022-02-04My husband and I both appreciated his experience with Megan after he had a stroke. Not only did she address his speech, but was very thorough in evaluating brain activity. He had a positive outcome, and we highly recommend Harmony in Morion.Beth Ruegg2021-10-24My ENT physician at Johns Hopkins recommended the vestibular.org site to locate a a qualified vestibular physical therapist closer to my home. I am so grateful I received therapy from Kris with the Epley Manuever for my benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) as I had marked improvement after only 2 sessions, and the vertigo has not recurred. Kris answered my questions, took time to explain the procedure, and provided written handouts on the procedure. She also shared exercises to improve balance, caused by a hearing loss in one ear. I would highly recommend her for physical therapy!Karin Guise2021-10-02Very satisfied with the physical therapy I received at Harmony in Motion.Susan J Johnson2021-09-27My husband has a neurodegenerative condition which has led to many symptoms similar to Parkinson’s Disease, including a very weak voice and a significant swallowing disorder which causes coughing with beverages – a signal that some liquids were slipping into his windpipe and putting him at a high risk for developing pneumonia His ENT physician referred him to this service for speech therapy. We were warmly received, thoroughly assessed and competently coached in techniques to strengthen both his swallowing and his voice. I had thought that his ability to be heard clearly was gone forever but Megan, his speech therapist, coaxed it back with her knowledge, expertise and patience in tandem with my husband’s hard work. No less valuable were such practical tips as elevating his dinner plate and using a book stand to help obviate postural deterioration. As he experiences isolation on many levels, Megan also recognized his need for engagement, therapeutic variety and social stimulation in a peer group which has led to his positive weekly participation in “The Loud Crowd” via Zoom. We had expected only speech and swallowing remediation but when Megan identified other posture problems and some generalized weakness, her business partner, Kristin, a physical therapist, worked hand-in-glove with Megan to assess and meet multiple safety and strengthening goals. In every session Kristin illustrated her solid knowledge base of the physiology of impaired human movement and her command of appropriate physical therapy techniques to help keep my husband “as strong as possible as long as possible”. Yet her clinical expertise was beautifully balanced with a gentle touch and friendly, responsive manner. Megan and Kristin truly do work in harmony with each other ! I was exceedingly pleased that my husband’s multiple therapy needs could be met so efficiently by such caring professionals, so close to home and in a calm, quiet setting with focused, one-on-one attention as opposed to a larger clinic with the distractions of multiple patients being simultaneously worked with by multiple therapists who must sometimes juggle two patients at once. Though my husband has currently been discharged from their care to continue his daily home therapy plan, we will definitely return to Harmony in Motion at any time when my husband’s therapy needs change. ~ Melody L.
