Straight Up Fitness
People who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia need to take special precautions when engaging in an exercise program; however, regular exercise is critical to maintaining healthy bone density. That’s why a program designed specifically for these individuals can be life changing. Straight Up Fitness is a program run by Kristin Zwemer, MSPT, a physical therapist with over 20 years of experience and specialty training in working with people with osteoporosis/osteopenia. The classes are designed to teach you the best exercises for strengthening your postural control muscles, help you achieve more upright posture and educate you on the importance of specific “loading” exercises to different muscle groups to strengthen your bones. We will also discuss nutrition and other factors that you can control to improve your bone density and strength. This program meets in a small group setting where we will build relationships as we offer each other support and encouragement while being led by a specially trained instructor. You will leave this program with a notebook of exercises and other educational material that will allow you to feel more confident in engaging in healthy and SAFE exercise independently.
